After working at a downstate ski shop for 10 years, I relocated to Traverse City. I began my career at Don Orr Ski Haus in 1983.
Transitioning from manager to owner continues to fuel my passion for the ski business and the sport itself. To this day, I thoroughly enjoy the challenges presented to me on a daily basis. My reward has been and continues to be the relationships formed with my co-workers and customers.
I started my passion for skiing at age 3. Spending most of my winter seasons hanging out with friends at Mt. Holiday, I took to ski racing with the Holiday Race Team and eventually racing in high school. In 2013 I joined the staff at Don Orr and began finding my niche in boot fitting and service, both on the sales floor and in the service department. My favorite thing about working with our staff and customers is creating lifelong memories through skiing.
I started at Don Orr’s in December of 1966. My role or job started out as a combination of sales and service. It continued that way for about 25 years and then transitioned into primarily service although I was asked to help with sales on occasion. The last 15 years have been primarily devoted to service. My favorite things about Don Orr’s are solving service problems and being involved with all the aspects of skiing.
My name is Louie, my mom and dad work here (Libby and Eric). My dad says I am supposed to be the security dog, but most of the time I lay around and say hi to the customers when they visit. I enjoy my ears scratched and my belly rubbed. If you’re trying on boots I might try and take your socks, but I will not chew them.
I grew up at Don Orr as my dad, Denny Hoxsie, has worked there since 1966. Don Orr was like a second home for me during the winter months. Since 2013 I have been both the bookkeeper and softgoods buyer. I enjoy making sure we have a fun collection of apparel for both our winter and summer seasons. When I am not at Don Orr, you can find me at one of our wonderful, local ski hills coaching the Traverse City West Ski Team and/or our local USSS racers.
I grew up in northern Wisconsin and began skiing at age 3. I joined my high school race team and grew an appreciation for the sport and the hard work it takes to succeed in ski racing. After high school, I was a volunteer coach for my old team and for the LaCrosse area ski teams. I enjoy the environment at Don Orr because we all get along and our personalities mesh so well together. Helping and educating our customers brings a smile to my face because I get to help someone enjoy a sport I have loved for years.
